About us

The Albanian Theatre Skopje was established in 1950, with origins tracing back to 1949, as an initiative of the People's Council of the City of Skopje. Initially known as the People's Theatre of Minorities, it consisted of two divisions: the Albanian Drama and the Turkish Drama. Over the decades, the theatre underwent changes in name and status, adapting its structure and activities to political and social realities. In 2004, the theatre was officially named the National Institution Albanian Theatre Skopje, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of Albanian art and culture.

In addition to contributing through its productions to the development of theatrical potential and contemporary theatre in the Republic of North Macedonia, Albanian Theatre has also established itself as one of the richest sources for the broad interpretation and understanding of the concept of culture. It serves as a space where aesthetic, educational, and broader social layers intersect, contributing to the creation of a foundational vertical in shaping cultural policies.
